I will miss these guys for the next few years. Their shows and The Alchemy Index / Beggars got me through some tough college years. Great show last night.

If you showed me a screen cap of this anywhere in the 0:10 - 0:15 range, I would never have guessed it was Isaac.
In other news, this is amazing. Definitely an intense song to pull off with just a three person band. While it does get a little rough at a moment or two, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a band this young with a song this strong; I just realized that he was only 21 or 22 years old when he wrote this - makes me feel pretty worthless as a musician. That last minute is just raw power.
Governor Mitch Daniels of Indiana was quoted as saying that the blast of wind that toppled the stage rigging at the Indiana State Fair killing 5 people was a “fluke event”.

Let’s stop bucketing meteorology and weather in general into some magical mystery science that can’t be explained.
The Lips put on quite an epic set last night indeed, full of amazing visuals - though this moment with the giant hands may have stolen the show for me. Wayne was shining them off a giant mirror ball with an intense cloud of fog pouring out over the graveyard. Doesn’t get much more picturesque than that.
Death Cab For Cutie - No Joy In Mudville (Live 2.12.2000)
if I could have had myyyyyyyyyyyyyyy way…
Saw these gents two nights ago. I am enjoying the new album on the whole…but alas…what I wouldn’t give to have witnessed this performance instead…not that it was bad by any means…but…eff…this song kills me…
Despite some annoying crowd yelling, this video’s overall quality is freaking impressive for a fan shot video from ten years ago.
Jeff Buckley - Dido’s Lament (Live at the Meltdown Festival)
Remember me, but ah! forget my fate.
I wrote about this performance awhile back, and failed to find the version of it that is in the background of the video. How I YEARNED for it and failed to find it on a few occasions late last year.
Alas I lucked out tonight and got my hands on it, and felt obligated to post it here. Glad I found it, since the video missed out on the great line from Elvis Costello (who curated the “festival” which was just a series of single vocal performances from different artists with an accompanying classical section): “I can tell you that no one wants to sing next.” Never had previously thought of that daunting task; what a poor sap who had to.
Enjoy in all of its beauty.
Ok, but this is the best version of that song that I’ve heard them do admittedly, just no sunset. If you’re going to watch one all the way through, make it this professionally shot one, mid 3-hour set at MSG in 2003. Mike destroys the outro. Edit: I just finished watching it all the way through for the first time in awhile, let me correct myself: MIKE = AFJEILA:JEFAELIJFE.
And now my bitter hands chafe beneath the clouds,
of what was everything?
Oh the pictures have all been washed in Black, tattooed everything.
WHEN AM I GOING TO GO TO THIS VENUE WITH THIS BAND PLAYING? Such an amazing sunset.
“How quick the sun can drop away.”
You can actually watch it getting darker as the song goes on. How fitting to the whole song. Couldn’t have been timed any better.
Seriously, the next time they are doing a show there, I am instantly booking a flight. Don’t care when it is. Don’t care what else is going on.
Dawes (feat. The Morning Benders) - When My Time Comes
This is seriously one of the best songs written in the 2000s, and a solid live take on it.
These guys’ last album, North Hills, kicked some major butt - and the first track to be released from their next album (Nothing Is Wrong, due out in June) was released today. I’ve heard the track live, and the studio version translated really well - it’s called If I Wanted Someone, and you can download it for free on their site. If you get the chance to have this group coming through your town, don’t miss their show; I’ve seen them at least two or three times now and they haven’t disappointed yet.
On a related note, if you want a good time killer, Yours Truly (where this is from) ought to be able to keep you busy with some great live videos. The Kills one on there was pretty enjoyable - they were one of my favorite acts I caught at Coachella…but more on that later this weekend when I finally pull down some photos.
